Family -
Oh you guys. . . I missed my brothers, cousins, and dad as I went to conference sunday morning (re-broadcast) ... Sounds like Dad's b-day gathering was a great time and surely everyone had fun recounting some wonderful memories.  Just to answer a few questions that were asked. . . Presidente Souza does most of his work from his home office, for example, he reads and writes back to ALL the missionaries letters...so today he is at home, dedicating the day to the weekly letters.  Mom, the transfer date that they've given us is March 5th.  So I'd be heading out on the fifth and getting home on the 6th sometime in the late morning.  Dad... I think I'm going to take Hales' advice and take a few classes in the summer, work, and see if I can't get some ideas in play in Provo before the Fall semester. . . Riviera would be awesome!  Even though I don't know where it is nor what it is like!  As far as I know, Kyle Hansen is already home! . . Andrew Blackham enganged!  Not surprising! . . . awesome guy.  One more provo temple!! SO cool!  I'm glad Elder Ingersoll came over!  Even is he's quiet (which he wasn't too quiet on the mission) he's a great guy!  Was he wearing capris?   Haha, he asked me before he left..."what am I going to wear to your house?"  So you got all my pictures right?. . . overload I know! haha.
I thought about our awesome Dad as I heard Sister Dalton speak of raising daughters.  I believe that the awesome sisters I have are a direct witness of the way in which Dad showed us how a mother and wife should be treated.  Hales is still on the look-out for someone who can live up to dad's mark, it's a tough one.  Love you all... can't wait to be by your side eating burnt peanuts, black licorice, snaps, milk duds, choc.chip.mint ice-cream, and smoothies next conference! ; )

Ps. Mom, there is a missionary asking how much you paid for those little magnet balls. . do you rememeber? . . . You kinda made me famous for the toys here in the office!

All-
Brief summary of everything that made our week...special haha.  Remind that last monday we got up at 3:30 to leave the missionaries in the airport and we stayed there a majority of the day.  Then tuesday we went back to get the new missionaries. . . Tuesday afternoon there was a missionary coming BACK who we went to pick up . . . he didn't show up... Then that night, another missionary going home because of his knee. . . we got there and and it turned out that his flight was cancelled and we hadn't need to be in such a hurry.  Wednesday we had 2 americans come in straight from Provo, a headache for me to make them legal, not to mention the first time that I've gone through the process. . . let's just say I tried but I didn't get it ALL right the first time haha. Thursday we had to make up for all the lost time, and Friday morning I was up at 5:00 am again to get a few Elders to the federal police department. . .
Sometimes I get tired but I really do enjoy helping out! . . The hardest part is not always feeling like a "real" missionary who teaches as a full-time job.  Saturday and Sunday was conference : ) we had a few investigators and a lot of recent converts there. . . Most of whom came in sunday best for the first time . . we gave a few ties out and got the men using 'em . . yahoo!
Conference was all we expected it to be and more.  For me, I felt a focus on the Book of Mormon and creating a relationship with our Heavenly Father through prayer.  It is my goal to be able to say here in six months, that my relationship with my Father in heaven is stronger than it is today.  I changed my system a little bit this conference and instead of writing everything that stuck out to me, I made a compiled list of what I need to DO and CHANGE for the next sixth months. . . Sometimes when I just write everything that called more attention, I never get back to it and it might never find it's way to becoming part of my new 'me.'  I hope I can make more and better changes these 6 months then ever before!
I felt a very special spirit as I heard the prophet read the 10 commandments to the world.  I felt very strongly that God was in each and every word that he was saying, confirming the importance of his most basic laws, not suggestions.  I love that man!  I enjoyed his occasional head-chake and chin-jiggle hahaha.  I know that he is the one and only person entitled to speak to the world in God's name and as his prophet today.  I'm so thankful to have no doubts as to the truthfulness of his gospel; now if I could just make all my weaknesses strengths ... I know he is aware of us.  He knows our path, our footsteps, our aches and pains... In thinking of my desire to make my weaknesses my strengths I remember he strongest phrase that rang out to me from the whole conference, which came through one of the songs - I Believe in Christ - when the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sang the last verse.  I believe in Christ; He stands supreme!  From Him I'll gain my fondest dream; and while I strive through grief and pain; His voice is heard, "YE SHALL OBTAIN."  I believe in Christ, so come what may, with him I'll stand in that great day, when on this Earth he comes again to rule among the sons of men.....I know that in him we gain our fondest dreams. . . that we can ALWAYS hear his voice whispering to us, ye shall obtain.  It brings joy, hope, and tears to my eyes to think of all He did and does for me.  Come what may, I want to be able to stand by his side.  Thanks to all for helping me do so!
                             With love and gratitude

After thoughts:
funniest conference moments.... President Monson shaking his turky chin in disbelief of the world today....and a certain child suggesting a third option when mother had given the only 2 options saying, "I want THIS choice (thrusting hand forward, securing her new choice in her air-filled fist)...TO PLAY....and eat JUST ice cream... and NEVER go to bed!!" . . . sometimes I want that choice too... I'm sure you can imagine my Johnson laugh being heard for a solid 10 seconds...

Fam -
Dad, I apologize for not having explained much about my contact with president... I don't really know how to describe it all!  President comes into the office usually just once a week, to do interviews or what-not... When he travels or what-not I just make sure he has a flight, a place to stay, etc.  I put together the reports of each week for him and send them to him by e-mail. . . for example, tonight I got an e-mail here saying that 2 americans were coming by surprise...so I called president, told him that I had finished another task he'd asked me to take care of (arrange for the return of a sick elder) and we talked about the new missionaries. . . we determined what time they were going to pick us up tomorrow so we can go get the new missionaries at the airport and have their first (of two) lunches at president's house haha.  I pretty much just do what he needs and get him information that he needs...sometimes he likes to run ideas by me on the phone (I think he does it without trying) and so sometimes he'll sit and explain his though process to me. . . I love the man.  He, to me, is SO funny with his dry humor and whatnot.  I am sure I was NOT born to make people laugh, but to recognize the comedy in life and laugh at it. . . The office is getting pretty spick and span . . but then transfer roles around and the missionaries do in with our organization!  Punks.  haha.  I've realized how well things work when missionaries resolve things themselves...which is almost ALWAYS possible... before calling someone (me) to save them... Usually when we talk about a great missionary.. .. they are one of those who never calls...you never hear from or about him, because he is in his area, dealing with his problems on his own, and working hard.  I love helping those who are really needing it!  The hardest part is hearing the famous phrase when I answer my phone..."I KNOW I am not supposed to be calling...but I have a favor to ask...." haha so cliché!  I've learned bunches!
Thanks for your e-mails mom dad and hales.  I'm sorry I took so long to get to ya'll....
                    - Love you all - tell Hals congrats on being so awesome!
P.S. --  not a single picture?!  Don't worry.. I sent 5 pics and 4+ videos! ; )

All-
So I spent a good part of the week organizing things for the transfer... updating documents, preparing packets for all the missionaries...Friday I went to the Federal Police Dep. getting up at 5:00am to get some visas renewed.....We finished the week with a wonderful baptism!  Daniel who is 17 got baptized and was one of the happiest I've seen on the day of the baptism...The only thing I can say about Daniel is that we truly didn't do any of the preparing in his case, he was simply ready.  He was already going to seminary and we met him at our missionary work activity that we are doing with the ward.
Today started at 3:40 when I woke up, got ready in 8.5 minutes (hair done, teeth brushed, shirt ironed, etc.) and set off for the airport in the still morning atmosphere of Fortaleza...with six brasilians who were headed home...reality set in for all of them as we got to the airport, they said their goodbyes and went through the gate.  Then we were off to our house again at 7:30 to get the americans.  We got home in time to find out that we still didn't have water in our house (can flush the toilet, wash dishes, shower, etc.) and the effects of 20 missionaries staying in our house were showing... I cleaned up a little bit, rounded up the american's and we were off.  In the van I handed our the packets for each one...letters to family, intinerary, hints from president, mission service history, etc... along with their passports as well.  In the end... I said goodbye to a good group of my friends today and sent a majority of them your way .. to SLC.  Including 3 that I had already served with in the field!  Great guys.
So our P-day was pretty much shot . . . sa'll good.  There were a bunch of people here at the office that tried to watch a movie so I sat down as well... I just fell asleep hahaha.  Wow.. I just realized that Kyle Hansen is getting home... today?  Maybe tomorrow.  Wow that is nuts.  I think I officially had my longest letter-less spree. . . that means I've been out here for a while!  I don't know what life would be like without this work to be done, we missionaries are super lucky.
love to all!

1. apron pictures - We decided that we really needed to do something to SHOW the sister how much we appreciate the lunches they make us... instead of trying to sincerely thank them as we leave with full stomachs... it just doesn't seem like enough . . . we decided that we were going to wash the dishes every lunch . . there are some sisters that simply don't allow it but those who let us, we've loved serving. . . This particular time, RUTH made me wear an apron to not get my tie dirty... haha

The week went well : ) Beej, thanks for the pictures!  Oh my goodness I can't believe your little Berlin!  How adorable.  And that picture of Savvy and Berlin with Rudy . . . He still doesn't love hugs yet does he? haha  Sav is SO grown up . . weird.  Dad. . . I can't believe the time has come to start deciding what we are going to do when my mission is over. . . it makes me scared, excited, nervous, and sad.  I have so much to learn still. . . I can't come home yet.  Well, I love you all 'demais' (too much).  Thanks for your prayers. . . I would be nothing without you all!
Steph -
Happy birthday!  You're olllld.  You might get a letter in the mail soon.... I hope your birthday was a wonderful day of family fun, great memories, and love!

All-
Dearest everyone.  The week was great.  I hope everyday for a normal schedule and that everything goes like we planned. ..  but that has yet to happen.  There is always something unexpected to be done. . . which means there is always something you expected to do, that doesn'tget done. . . bummer!  I wish with all my heart I could at least maintain my normal study schedule. . . aka two hours a day. . . but there is just no way.  ANYWAY.
        Miracle of the week:
We had a few baptisms that fell through last week, one in particular that made us pretty sad...because she was SO ready but didn't feel like she was.  Her name is Aline.  We met her the first week of last transfer if you remember, her little sister was singing in the doorway and we went back to talk to her.  Well we vowed to ourselves that we were going to call her and talk about her baptism every single day of the week... so we did.  Each day her reaction was different..."Are you excited about your baptism this Sunday Aline?" "ahh yeah we'll see"...or...."I hope it works out"....or..."If I'm ready"... etc.  Yesterday was Stake conference and we had one investigator there (an awesome man who lives the gospel to a T and doesn't even know it)..Aline wasn't there.  I was pretty blue.  We were in the back where all of the loud kids and adults that talk were. . . Luis was with us and I was worried sick about whether or not he was enjoying it more than I was, I was wondering where in the world the other 2 people that were supposed to be baptized were,  worrying about the flights that I need to buy for the missionaries that will be going home this transfer, and not even being able to see the speaker. . . All of that while wearing my suit for the first time in a year and realizing that my pants are MUCH tighter than they used to be...hahaha.  To say the least my faith was on a low.  I grabbed Elder Roza before the conference got over and I was like, "let's go to Aline's house."  Off we went.  When we got there, we were greeted by a grumpy old man... And I'm thinking... "Dear Grumpy old man - All I am trying to do is see if Aline is here to help her come to the true church so that she can be baptized and change her life in the greatest way possible..." . . If he had known that, I'm sure he wouldn't have been so grumpy.  Then the miracle happened.  Aline was getting ready, she came outside, and off we went; to have her baptismal service!
When we got back to the church, the conference was getting over and there was just a mess of people.  We told our ward about the service and got everything in order.  I put on the biggest white jumpsuit that I've ever seen, the meeting was simple, spiritual, and full of sincere messages from ward members who welcomed her and another man that was baptized.  She did it!  She had been nervous, everyone in her house was talking bad about the church, but she knows it's true and she couldn't deny it!  It was simply a miracle.
We have another elder with a hurt knee living with us now, he has to walk slowly EVERYWHERE we go hahah... and I just sent two of the others on flights to São Paulo this morning so they can treat their knees and come back...I hope they come back.
I know that, as President Monson said, we cannot afford detours from which we may never return.  We cannot afford to leave the path.  We personally must do everything in our power to live what we know to be right and avoid the appearance of evil, even (as was said in the Liahona) if it affects the smallest aspects and routines of our lives.  I read a quote the other day that can be applied in many situations of our lives.  It was referring to the music we listen to and how it affects us in a great way.  It goes like this, "One song is not worth it." - My translation... Keeping one song that we really like but that has even the smallest part that is not worthy of the spirit... is simply not worth it.  Throw it out. . . or applied in other situations... Just don't do it, or just don't say that, or stop thinking such thoughts... We might love the song, it might be a really funny joke, the movie might be the most popular of the month, but it just isn't worth it.  I need to work on this more than anyone else.   We aren't perfect and we never will be, but as we try to get there, we'll find a whole lot of happiness on the way!
I hope you can feel of my love-
Elder Johnson

Family!
Sounds like tons of great things are happening in Utah!  People getting married friends and family (lots of them), the family getting together, and growing as well. . .no one had told me Greg Meacham was getting married. . I forgive ya though, I would have at least found out when I got home huh? ; )    I couldn't be more excited about having my dog come back to life!  It just makes me happy to know that he is trying to get out of the backyard again!  hahaha Dad you had me laughing when you mentioned his present for the cottrell's. . .did Jace let you know that it had happened? ; ) they must be super grown up by now!  Mom and Dad... your e-mails were superior today!  Loved hearing about what is going on in your callings and in the family.  Wish I could have been at the temple with you guys but there is still time for that!  I miss it so much here . . . imagine how much President Souza is going to miss it after having been a counselor in the temple presidency!  Have a wonderful week!
Two quotes I wanted to include :
        1.  A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes - Hugh Downs
        2.  "Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you; not because they are nice, but because you are!"
Those are good ones to memorize and remember time after time!
Oh one more!

Those who are only sort of committed may expect to only sort of receive the blessings of testimony, joy, and peace. The windows of heaven might only be sort of open to them. - President Uchtdorf

All -
Well it was a crazy week...again!  Leadership meeting, training for the Zone Leaders, more sick people, etc.  Aside from all of that fun stuff, we had a great turnout on Sunday!  I don't know how well I've done on updating you, but we are teaching a 20 year old named Aline who we met the first week of the transfer.  I might have even told you how; we stopped because her little niece was in the door singing haha.  Well, she didn't go to church last Sunday and so we gave her some space this week.  We talked to her Saturday and told us she was going on Sunday, which she did.  She went along with a few other people that we are teaching: Tino, Esterrfany, Josiane . . . We stopped by her house after church and she expressed her desire to be baptized although she 'doesn't feel ready yet' - a classic.  Tino also came up to as and told us he had received an answer. . . he had felt something during testimony meeting and the first hour that he had never felt before.  Yesterday I truly realized that WE don't convert anyone, but we show people the way and invite them to follow Christ and let HIM do the converting.  He truly did his part yesterday.  Many of our recent converts were there and one even bore testimony. . . I probably looked like a dweeb just sitting there grinning from ear to ear, but it really is so joyous to see something like that happen.  111 people in sacrament meeting, more than I've ever seen in this ward.  We are planning on 3 baptisms next week and I hope all goes smoothly; we might sing a special number as well!
We had a  sweet activity Thursday night as well. . . the whole ward was invited and I'm pretty sure they haven't had a well planned activity like that for quite a while.  While planning and setting up, I'll admit it, we were not expecting much.  We set up a BUNCH of chairs and the sound system (ended up not working), tables, and a pulpit... the trampoline showed up, we made a bunch of kits that were supposed to go out to all of the non-members at the activity.  Well. . . 7 o clock and no one had shown up yet...faith falling. . . 7:16. . . one person. . . But then it happened!  People started showing up!  We really had to DO our part with faith that it would all come together.  The activity was great. . . sack races, eggs on spoons, popcorn, dancing, screaming.. etc.  If you can believe it, when the activity was still in the making... there were people from the ward that simply said 'it isn't going to work' . . .as to say 'no one will come... you can't do it.'  Well we did!  Wonderful week, I wish I could tell you everything I learned and all that we did, but maybe one day you'll all be able to read about it in the book life ; ).
I am finding a lot of strength if having scriptures and quotes memorized that come to mind in the exact moment that I need a certain council. . to be more patient or to love more, or be more faithful.  Here are a few of them.

1.Those who are only sort of committed may expect to only sort of receive the blessings of testimony, joy, and peace. The windows of heaven might only be sort of open to them. - President Uchtdorf
        2.  A happy person is not a person in a certain set of circumstances, but rather a person with a certain set of attitudes - Hugh Downs
        3.  "Treat everyone with politeness, even those who are rude to you; not because they are nice, but because you are!"
        4. A smile is a powerful weapon, you can even break ice with it.

Have a swell week!

Fam-
Alrighty!  Well I am excited to write all of you . . . I got some super fun pictures and updates so thanks : )  . . . I love when I can sit here infront of a computer 5,000 miles away and laugh because I know JUST what was going on or because I just wish I could've been somewhere!  I thought I'd give the run-down (if dad hasn't yet) of what my new area has brought with it.  My new comp is Elder King from Springville Utah, and Elder Roza from São Paulo.  Love them both to death.  We have a great time working together and I believe each of us makes the other one want to be better, that is always a good thing.  Elder Roza is the finicial secretary and is in one of the pictures I sent, he is the classic lady's man comic. . . oh he kills me.  He also speaks english really well.  He always says 'dog gone-it' and 'dang-it' ... love him.  Elder King played football and is a die-hard BYU fan.  We will definitely be watching them together after the mission.  He was the Exec. Secretary for 6 months and will be teaching me everything he knows over the next 5 weeks.  To answer your question Dad, it won't really take 5 weeks but there are things that have to be done such as; buying pass tickets, plane rides home, making packets for missionaries who are going home and who are arriving, marking dentist/doctor/any appointments for the missionaries, order materials for the missionaries, rent hotel rooms and such for president when he travels, update all of the mission areas and companionships after transfers, track all of the baptisms and baptismal records for the whole mission, schedule interviews with President Souza (Francisco de Assis Souza), sort all of the mission letters and packages, write the weekly mission e-mail, prepare materials for the Zone Leaders, Get all of the numbers from all of the zones (9 zones with 180 + missionaries) each week. . . and anything else that comes up for us to do . . . All of that and more, while taking care of our area and trying to teach new people and baptize.  Many elders have the wrong idea about the secretaries because in the past there have been those who never even left that office and just stopped their actual proselyting work.  Well slowly that has changed and as the mission gets more digital, I plan on being able to spend very little time in the office and try to keep a normal proselyting schedule.  The hard thing is doing all of the work with a highly possibility of your plans being lost due to something unexpected that comes up.  IN THE END.  It is a big change . . coming from Barbalha, the humblest area on the mission, to Aldeota, the Noblest area in the mission.  I was used to teaching on dirt floors, not eating lunch in high-rise apartments next to the beach.  Life is an adventure right?  Change is good. (baby steps around the office... hahaha)
Love you all! - Elder Johnson

MOM.. did you get my DVD with all my pictures on it?. . . and Rudy is getting normal again??... that was AWESOME news!

All-
This Saturday we met a young lady (23) named ALINE (Ah lee knee) who made our week.  Due to the transfer we hadn't had very much time to teach and we were dying!  We were out in our area (offices and apartment buildings) trying to decide what our best option was and we heard someone singing.  We looked over and there was a little girl behind their gate just staring at us and singing.  We turned around to go see if her family was home...subsequently, she ran away haha.  5 seconds later she appeared with her aunt (aline) who, to sum things up, told us she had been waiting for someone to help her find direction in her life and went to church with us yesterday.  She loved is and is going to a family night with us tonight.  I don't feel worthy of all the blessings the Lord gives us!
Quickly . . we had to get people fro mthe airport this week, a few times in fact.  We talked with some americans which was fun, but we also met a lady from ISRAEL. . what?!  She didn't speak portugues just english. . . what a courageous person . . just a backpack and the desire to see the world!  We helped her get on her way and also got he to speak some hebrew for us... SO cool.
Last thing... from my study this week.  I have fallen in love with all of the scriptures that just say things how they are, ya know? "this is how it is, and if you don't do it... good luck."  Well, Heleman 14:30-31 is beautiful.  It is so simple.  The path is set, it is our choice, those who follow will win, those wish not to listen, will be rewarded accordingly... link that with Alma 42:27...another of my favorites!
The weird english word of the week (when said outloud) is GAMBLE.
Love you all - Elder Johnson

Fam-
Mom and Pop.  I got some letters today!  There was an emergency transfer here because they are opening up a new area here in the interior that has never had missionaries.  In the end, we got letters.  AND, I got your package Mom!  I know that I'm weird, but I like suspense, so I haven't even opened it yet. . . it is just on my bed waiting. . . I am VERY excited : )  Dad I got your letter about waiting 2 -3 weeks and then heading down here.  .  . that does sounds like a great idea!  Then we could all get to know some of the beautiful areas here as well neh?  Lets stick with that idea then!  Like you said, we won't have to worry about certain dates and what-not.  AND. . . I missed Father's Day Dad, at least in e-mail form.  I know you know how much I love you but if you didn't know (which I didn't know), now you know.  You are my hero.  You will get your letter soon (I hope!).
Dearest Barrett!  I hope you also had an awesome birthday!  Your letter is on it's way!  I got some pictures of your birthday from Hales, so fun : )  Your family is beautiful!  You made my week with your e-mail and the family picture you sent last week!  keep me posted!  Love, Your bud, Elder Johnson.
Hales- that picture of mom with the grandkids is SO perfect! Oh man. . . everyone is growing so fast!  Someone take a short video of all the grandkids to send to me?!

All-

One more week flies by!  We baptized a young man named Carlos this Sunday.  He was really excited and was also supposed to be baptized with his 19 yr old sister but she bailed at the last minute : (  We went to pick him up at his and set off for the chapel.  After 5 minutes we turned around and his mom and his friends mom were running after us!  They had decided that they wanted to come watch, what a blessing!  It was a great service and his mother is loving everything about what her kids are learning.  Everything ran smoothly until my comp stepped on Carlos' toes after the baptism. . . he cried a little bit (he was super sensitive last night, I think he's a mommas boy like me) but he got over it!
We are teaching an AWESOME man in our area right now, who could be the light at the end of the tunnel for the church here.  He Is trully searching. . . but he works every Sunday morning. . AH.  We got him started reading the Book of Mormon and he surpised us pretty good on our second visit.  We went in, chatted quickly, prayed, watched the video about the first vision, testified, and prayed to end the lesson.  We were determined to be quick and leave the spirit in their home; not wear out the welcome.  The spirit surely was there.  The situation was perfect.  No noise, no distractions, good tv, nice sound. . . just perfect.  As we left, you could tell he wanted to talk more.  He got up and said, "I started the Book of Mormon, that Nephi is a persistent one neh?. . . Went back to the city with faith, found that guy drunk on the floor, and it was easy from there neh?"  Haha.  We were stoked that he had read and understood.  Pray for him!  Marcondes is his name.  (MAR-CONE-JEES)
One more experience.  We were teaching the first lesson the other day, and for some reason the strong realization hit me that they were NEVER going to understand the message if the spirit didn't testify.  I began to pray my heart out as my companion talked about Joseph Smith.  After a minute of fervent prayer, I trully FELT the spirit come into that room.  It was the most directly answered prayer I think I have ever had.  I kept my eyes fixed on my companion, praying that everyone was feeling what I did.  We left, and later as we were talking about the lesson, my comp said, "I can't believe Neide (the mother in that lesson) cried during the first vision."  I about screamed with happiness!  I never took my eyes off of my comp so I didn't see her, but she had truly felt the spirit enter into the room as well!
Last thought.  I started reading about the wars in the book of Alma and I learned a great lesson this week.  Alma 43:38 is where I found it.  The Nephites had protected every vital part of the body before they went to war as to not leave themselves vulnerable to anything.  In this case, every person has the same "vitals" to be protected (heart, head,... etc.)  In the spiritual application. . we all have different vital areas.  Each of us has a different weakness and many times we are the only ones that know about that weakness.  We have to pinpoint it, and do everything to fortify it, as to not be vulnerable to any attack.  I realized also that THIS is why we can't compare ourselves with other people. . . "ah, so and so does this and that, and goes to this place and so on and so forth. . . I can too" . . . It doesn't work like that.  We have to do everything to protect our weaknesses and make them strengths, even if it means not doing something that seems so normal to the world or even another member.  I don't know if it made as much sense for all of you as it did for me . . .  but it helped me out a lot this week.
I hope you are all doing great!  Life goes on. . . we continue to move forward in this great plan.  It is perfect!  As I heard an Elder say yesterday . . "Everything is possible in God's hands, and in God's hands, are we." . . Believe it!  Try to feel it!

Fam-
Before I forget. . . Dad, do you have contact with people that you taught on you mission?  I have so many questions for you and Barrett when I have the chance to ask them all! haha.  Hales and Heid thanks for the pictures!  Wow. . . first run on the lake already . . that just made my stomach rumbly . . . funny that you mentioned J-dawgs Hales. . . just yesterday I was trying to explain to Elder Redd what a J-dawg is. . . that is a toughy.  What Day is Fathers day?  It is different here in Brasil and I don't what to miss it. . . if I miss it in the e-mail you can be sure that I will be sending by snail-mail.

To all -
So . . . this week we got dragged into a terrible situation of accepting food and wasting time at a members house.  Right when we wanted to leave they told us they were making some food and it would be quick.  In the end, we were going crazy because of the helpless situation and we both ended up eating a large plate of sardine stew. . . it wasn't bad in all reality . . I just wasnt really hungry hahaha.  They sent us home with a ton of lemons, bananas, etc.
This morning on Pday we went with the whole zone to a factory of the best  soda in the world, that doesn't exist in the states yet  . . . but they have the goal to be there before 2026!  It is called Cajuina. . . from the SÃO GERALDO (saint jerold ; ) ) company.  It was fun trip and the elders enjoyed the free soda at the end. . . I sent a pic : )
Other sidenote.   . I found out this week that Jim Carrey is a member of the church . . What?!  I had no idea haha.  Someday he'll wake up to a tough reality right? haha.
About the week...we had a fallen baptism last night that was a huge headache, looking for someone who wasn't home and letting people down that were there waiting. . . well this week we should be able to close on some great baptisms that have taken a while.   Those that take the longest are often the ones that stay strong!   President Batt will be ending his mission in 7 days and we will be getting a new mission president who will be brazilian this time!  That'll will be an interesting change!  President Batt is an awesome man (who we noticed never hugs his missionaries haha) who has changed this mission greatly and, for those who observed him, taught us many things through his example and his many words of wisdom.  One thing that shows his humility and will always stick with me was when he told us... if you do anything when you get back, or make any promise with God. . .make the promise to be 100 percent on your visits.  You family will be blessed by your example, you will grow, and others will be blessed.  His theory seemed to simple be. . . Be good, obedient, do more than you did yesterday, work hard, be blessed. . .  He always made it seem so simple to be a great member and happy person. . which is it!
Last thought . . Alma 39:10 . . . Alma leaving some words of wisdom for Coriantumr.  He teaches something that I wish I would have learned a lot earlier in my life!  We have so much to learn from our parents and our siblings.  I am trully embarassed for the years I spent being a hot-headed adolescent losing many chances to strengthen my family relationships that will be my eternal ones.  I don't know when I finally woke up, but I know that from that day forward I have learned so much and made friendships that mean the world to me!  I thank my parents for giving me every chance possible and my brothers and sisters for being stellar examples, love you all!  I send my thanks also to all of my friends who have shown me how to love your family and siblings!
Abraços e beijos to all . . . haha.  -Elder Johnson

To all-
So we were, and will be again today, the first missionaries to step foot in a city here called OLD MISSION.  We are headed out there again and it'll be fun to see the crazy looks we'll get haha.  Success of the week:  We have the goal for each companionship in the zone to 'adopt' an innactive man and try to get him re-activated.  The man we are accompanying was at church Sunday and I really think he was just lacking a simple visit and the last little boost to get him back.  He left for a while because he was never able to stop drinking, but he will do it this time and we are excited about hit potential to change the branch here.
I loved Alma 29: 14-end. . . How Alma didn't get as excited for his own success as he did for the success of his brethren.  That is truly charity in its purest form!  Wishing the best for all and rejoicing in the success of others.  If everyone had the same attitude this world would be translated!  I spoke in church yesterday, and blessed the sacrament again . . . that is what happens in a branch of 30 active people and 6 missionaries. . . almost the only men.  We love it here and we have a great time together.  I plan on flying my kite today that I made last p-day . . I am really excited : )
The other night we were teaching and there was a power outage.  We were able to continue in the dark and we were even able to take the coffee out of two houses so that a few families could start obeying the word of wisdom.  As we left into the street in the dark, I couldn't believe the beautiful sky that I saw above me.  I finally understand the twinkle twinkle little star song. haha.  The stars were literally twinkling and SO bright.  Well, being the me that I am, I got thinking.  .  .  And I realized that I never would have seen that if the lights of the world, the false lights that are only good for a certain amount of time and will one day burn out, had not gone out.  We have to seperate ourselves from the world and we can't get accustomed to the lower level of light that the world offers.  Spiritually and materially speaking.  As president Batt said.  The world WILL GET WORSE.  We must be separated, but we also have to make sure that we aren't slowly drifting with the world as well.  So as to be be today where the world was 10 years ago.  Stand alone in the right!
We have an investigator that is firm as can be, but because of her husband won't be baptized.  She will be a firm church-goer forever but I don't know i she will ever be able to be baptized.  Miracles are happening. . . Maybe not how we want, but they are!  Love you all muito.

PS.  . . Weird englis word of the week.  FRECKLE.  Say that one outloud 20 times!

All-
Our whole zone went to zone conference this week!  Doesn't sound very impressive but it is : ) .  20 missionaries, 10 hour busride, and some great spirit-guided trainings.  One of my favorite things that I heard at conference is something that can be applied to all of our callings in the church.  Elder Cassimiro said, "we are not fulfilling our purpose leaving the house, walking around and visiting people."  But aren't we here to teach?  The point was that we have to be maintaining the same vision that the godhead has and working with the same love that the have as well.  We have to be trully inviting all to come unto christ and just by making a visit and teaching a lesson that doesn't always get done.  Why are we doing what we are doing and are we really focused on the main purpose or just going through the motions?  Loved that thought!
We visited a few people that I baptized in Fortaleza as well!  Haha the mother pretty much offered us her kitchen!  She had made something called feijoada . . which is like a black bean stew. .  . pretty good.  But I wasnt hungry haha.  All that was left on the plate were a few bones covered in fat and she was still saying  "You guys are going to eat ALL of that! Pick it up and eat it!" . . so there I went with no help from the elder that was with me . . . stripping these bones of all the edible substances . . yes, all the fat as well . . don't gag ; ) haha.  It was so fun to see them all!
If your happy and you know it, and your face'll surely show it . . . - Proverbs 15:13.  A cool scripture I heard this week.
I am reviewing Mosiah and I loved chapted 4 that I read.  In vs. 11 he gives us what I call King Benjamin's formula.  He tells us what we must do and then he tells us what the results will be in the following verses.  We must humble ourselves with the deepest humility.  Each day on the mission I realized how involved God is in our lives and far I have to go.  The mission is really a great time to see where we are lacking. . . but everyday can be and is another chance to ask ourselves those same questions 'where am I weakest, what am I lacking, what can I change?' (as well as Mosiah 2:41).
It was like christmas when I spent an hour (due to the zone conference) in the mission office just downloadig conference talks.  Now we are far away from the mission office but I have 50 + awesome conference talks to listen to!  If you haven't checked the church website out lately, give it a look-sy . . . it is a playground of uplifting ....ness!
I love you all. . . each and everyone.  No, but seriously.
